If you have been looking for a different kind of vacation,
Central America offers a lot of opportunities for travel that
you may not have thought about. For the most part, the region
contains the following countries: Belize, Costa Rica, Guatemala,
Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, El Salvador, and the Dominican
Republic. While these might not seem like great vacation
destinations, there is a lot in the region to see and explore.
One of the interesting things to note about the area that
connects North America and South America is that the
biodiversity is very high - all types of people are found in
Central America.
Belize
Once known as "British Honduras," Belize is unique because of
its British heritage - unlike other countries in Central
America. There are Mayan ruins to explore, which is very fun.
Also, it can be quite fun just to go to experience the rich
local cultural history. From Caracol in the south to Lamanai in
the north, if you've ever wanted to see Mayan ruins in person,
this is one of the best countries to see the history and
monuments of the Mayan culture.
Costa Rica
The literal translation of Costa Rica is "Rich Coast," which is
evident when you visit. From the environment to human
development, this republic is a world leader, even though it is
so small. Surrounded by Nicaragua, Panama, the Pacific Ocean and
the Caribbean sea, this is a very versatile nation. Tourism is
one of their main industries.
Guatemala
While Guatemala isn't traditionally known as a travel
destination for vacationers, the representative democracy has a
rich cultural past. The highlands of Guatemala are beautiful
year round. Spanish is the official language in the country if
you're thinking about traveling here.
Honduras
There is a lot of great natural wonder in Honduras. This is a
poor country, but for those who like to travel to help others,
this is a great opportunity to help. With mountains, valleys and
jungle, Honduras isn't a typical destination for travelers, but
it can be a very special place to visit for some people.
Nicaragua
Not many think about visiting here, but tourism in Nicaragua is
the second largest industry in the country. They primarily speak
Spanish and English in Nicaragua, if you're thinking about
traveling here. With a large diversity in environment and people
both, Nicaragua isn't a popular destination for most people, but
it can be a beautiful one.
Panama
With the largest economy in Central America, Panama owes some of
the growth to their tourism industry. They are a large business
center in the region, but tourism has allowed them to grow
steadily. One of the reasons for the popularity is Panama's
belief in "Special Tourism Zones" that offer many incentives for
people all over the world to travel here.
El Salvador
The smallest but most densely packed nation in Central America,
El Salvador is known for having a lot of problems in the past,
but they have begun concentrating on their tourism industry, and
it's really paying off. With beautiful landscapes and a rich
culture and history, many people enjoy traveling here.
Central America for Travel?
While it might not be the first destination you think about when
deciding where to spend your well earned vacation, but many
people are finding it a great, inexpensive destination. And with
so many countries in Central America actively working on their
tourism industries, travelers can take advantage of all the
special offers - like Special Tourism Zones. There are many
